🔹Parents & carers tell us that talking about death and dying to very young children can feel uncomfortable. This book, Why Do Things Die? written by Katie Daynes and beautifully illustrated by Christine Pym will help make those difficult conversations less awkward. It is a new book published by Usborne in 2020. 🔹We all know that young children enjoy lifting a flap in a book and this book is written in a question-and-answer format with flaps with questions on the outside of the flap and the answer on the inside. The forest creatures ask questions that many young children might want to know but don’t know how to put into words. The answers are very gentle, age appropriate and honest. It gives the reader permission to feel angry, or sad, or confused and normalises grief reactions. There are six sections in the book - Why do things die?, Is it OK to talk about dying?, What happens when someone dies?, Can I shout and cry and hide away?, How can I stop being sad?, and Happy Memories. 🔹For any families with bereaved children under the age of about 5, this book comes highly recommended. It might also appeal to older children too if you leave it lying around the house for them to look at independently. ... See MoreSee Less

🔹Last year Helen, from our Clinical team, wrote a fantastic blog about grief in under fives and what can help. As we are re-visiting this topic, we wanted to share it again with you. You can find the blog here 👇ow.ly/nFJf50DHOix🔹We have also produced a booklet specifically focussing on how to support under 5's who have experienced the death of a loved one. This is a free resource and can be downloaded here👇ow.ly/VXLR50DHOiw🔹On Friday, Eve from the clinical team, will be sharing her recommended resource for under 5's so keep an eye out for that! 👀 ...
