Why SeeSaw?

Children suffer when someone they love is dying or dies. Most experience a period of emotional turmoil before and after bereavement, and for about one third of children, these difficulties are severe.

Research has shown that in this country a child is bereaved of a parent every 30 minutes and in Oxfordshire each year there are an estimated 1,500 children who are bereaved of a parent or sibling. SeeSaw aims to reduce the distress of these grieving children through professional support and understanding.

Supporting a grieving child can seem like a daunting challenge and adults are often overwhelmed by their own feelings of grief. They worry that they will make things worse by doing or saying the wrong thing; they want to protect their children from painful experiences, although by doing so they can leave them confused and alone with their questions, fears and powerful feelings.

SeeSaw promotes emotional and psychological well-being through the delivery of an early intervention service offering specialist support to children
and their families.
