Side by Side programme
Families often tell us they feel isolated in their grief and that they would like to meet up with others who have been bereaved. Our Side by Side programme involves a variety of events throughout the year to meet the needs of bereaved children, young people and their families.
We bring children, young people and their families together to share in activities and to have fun.
We have a number of regular annual events and also arrange days to meet the needs of particular groups of young people. We are very fortunate in having staff, support workers and friends of SeeSaw who bring a wide range of creative and therapeutic interests to these activities.
Some recent activities
Family fun days – Informal opportunity to meet with other families to share a day of craft activities, games and a picnic!
Preparing for Christmas – For families preparing to face their first Christmas after someone special dies. The children are supported in Christmas craft work, bell-ringing, memory work and other activities, while the adults have time to share fears and anxieties about how to manage Christmas. The afternoon ends with sharing tea together.
Activity days – For smaller groups of young people to come together to share in different workshops. These might include photography days, campfire cooking, filming, art and music workshops as well as outdoor activities at the Youlbury scout camp.
Coffee mornings – Informal gatherings over a cup of coffee with a crèche for any little ones. This could be an open group or one specifically for grandparents finding themselves caring for grandchildren or for carers with under-fives. This offers an opportunity to meet together to share experiences, supported by a member of our clinical team.
Special days out – We are very grateful for the support of local communities who regularly offer us tickets for pantomimes, the circus or special visits to local attractions.
